Johnson Accepts Dropping Fri 15th Sep 2000 11:14 Town striker David Johnson has reacted calmly to the news that he will start Saturday's game at Leeds from the bench. The £1.1 millon signing said: "I was poor last Saturday. I was really disappointed at my performance, so in the back of my mind I thought it might happen. I'm disappointed I have not scored in the opening few games but I'm more than pleased with the way I have handled being in the Premiership and I feel I started in good form but it is that first goal which I need." |
Matt Expected to be Fit Fri 08th Sep 2000 10:39 Town skipper Matt Holland is expected to be fit for tomorrow's home game with Aston Villa. The 171 consecutive appearance man has had ice packs on his ankle since Wednesday's game with Leicester and they seem to have done the trick. |
Burley Worried by Changes Tue 05th Sep 2000 10:38 Town manager George Burley has added his worries regarding the impending changes to the transfer system to those who have already spoken out. The Town manager said: "There seems little doubt that things will change, but the question is whether FIFA and the politicians can agree on some compromise that will not result in destroying the game as we know it." |
Holland Still Hopeful Fri 25th Aug 2000 10:51 Town skipper Matt Holland is still hopeful that he will be fit for Saturday's game with Sunderland. The man who has made 169 consecutive appearances has taken to paddling in the sea in order to reduce the pain and swelling from the ankle injury caused by a wayward Gary Neville tackle on Tuesday |
Holland Worry Wed 23rd Aug 2000 11:53 Town skipper Matt Holland is the Blues' major worry after last night's dramatic draw with Manchester United. Holland was injured by a first half challenge from Gary Neville which left him nursing a sore ankle. He is a major worry for Saturday. Holland has played every game for Town since signing from Bournemouth three seasons ago. |
Scales Faces Test Fri 18th Aug 2000 11:37 Town new signing John Scales is facing a fitness test if he is to be fit for Saturday's game. Scales suffered a thigh injury in last week's game with Fiorentina. He has missed training several times this week, but manager George Burley is confident he will be OK: "Hopefully it will settle down in time, John won't want to miss out against his old club." |
American Beauty Tue 08th Aug 2000 10:46 Town are this morning being linked with 27-year-old USA international Gregg Berghalter. |
Squad for Leyton Orient Tue 01st Aug 2000 15:25 Several of Town's injury worries are likely to take part in tomorrow's game at Leyton Orient (KO 7.45). Tony Mowbray is in both squads as he is that hard. Full squad: R Wright, Branagan, Wilnis, Clapham, Scales, Bramble, Thetis, Brown, Magilton, Holland, Reuser, Scowcroft, Niven, Johnson, Stewart, Logan, Friars and Mowbray. |
Burley Denies More Rumours Mon 31st Jul 2000 11:13 Town manager George Burley has denied press reportes that he has made a £1 million offer for Colchester's Lomano Tresor Lua-Lua. He has also refuted stories linking him with Rosenborg midfielder Orjan Berg. Town fans are increasingly worried at the lack of movement on the transfer front, although George Burley has said he is anxious to spend some of his kitty, rumoured in some places to be £6 million, although it could possibly be even more. Certainly Richard Wright committing himself to the club means that nothing will have to be spent on a new keeper. The manager has said, however, that he will only spend on the correct players for the team, not just spend for the sake of it. |
Wright Action! (At Last) Fri 28th Jul 2000 14:52 Finally something seems to be actually happening with regards to the Richard Wright situation. The keeper is reported in some places to be about to sign a new deal, however Celtic have expressed an interest in the keeper. George Burley said of the inquiry from Martin O'Neill and the possibility of a new deal being signed: "I've spoken to Martin, there has been no offer as yet but the truth is that I don't want to sell Wright and we are in the process of offering him a new deal. I'm very hopeful he'll sign in the next 24 hours and, if he does, there will be no transfer." Other sources suggest Wright may leave Town for Celtic at a cost of £4 million perhaps even as soon as tomorrow. More when and if we hear it. |
